Watch Dogs back on track after Trademark dilemma

Late yesterday it appeared Ubisoft had abandoned the trademark for Watch Dogs, but they claimed the request was fraudulent and was not issued with the company’s knowledge. After a review with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the debacle has now seemingly come to a close, but it is still unclear who tried to abandon it in the first place.

According to the USPTO: “An unknown party who lacked authority executed the purported abandonment of the application. Although the request appears to have been sent by [Ubisoft], [the publisher] declared that it did not submit the request and has every reason to believe that this filing was fraudulent. The director finds the application should not have been abandoned.”

With the trademark now formally reinstated, Ubisoft can resume its rights of the Watch Dogs name. The game is currently on schedule for release in the second quarter of 2014.
