REVIEW: God of War III – Remastered
Summary: A third-person, action/adventure game where you play as Kratos, owning the title ‘God of War’ on a quest for revenge against the gods of Mount Olympus. It was first released on the PlayStation 3 console, now remastered for PlayStation 4.
Concept: The game is set deep within Ancient Greek mythology and follows the story of Kratos, a Demi-God and former warrior of Sparta. After attaining the title of God of War by killing lots of stuff, he sets on a path to bring down the gods after the death of his family. It’s a great story of revenge that features enormous Titans who help you along the way.
Graphics: I loved the improved visual fidelity of the game; running at smooth 60FPS and with a 1080p resolution to boot. Pulling off combos doesn’t get much smoother than this, folks. The game shines brilliantly on Playstation 4 and showcases the future potential of what the system is capable of.
Gameplay: Combat is based on a combo system, using multiple different weapon types such as the Blades of Exile, used for slicing and dicing or long-ranged chain whip attacks. You also gain new weapons such as the Claws of Hades, huge gauntlets that allow you to bash through tougher opponents. Add all this to the over-the-top action set pieces and blood and guts and you’ll have a field day. The game also has puzzles to solve, as well as traversal areas to climb and navigate, that break up the gameplay into nice digestible chunks.
Sound: The sound department has the game’s soundtrack fit perfectly with the combat as well as the high stakes boss battles. It truly makes you feel you are fighting a god. The sound of weapon clashes and bloody deaths sound extremely gruesome, but can we expect anything less from the God of War series.
Awesomeness: This is my first experience with playing any game from the God of War series and I loved every minute of it. For those who have already had the pleasure of playing this game on the previous console, there aren’t any drastic changes made except for the impressive graphical upgrade. However, for those who have gave this game a miss, now is the perfect time to give a try. It’s fast-paced combat, gore and huge set pieces will keep you entertained.
Final Word: God of War 3 Remastered is a fantastic experience for people who are unfamiliar with the series and is a great entry point for them to start. For fans who have already experienced this great title but would like to replay it with all new graphics, this is definitely worth your time.
