Top 10 Dinosaur Video Games

With Far Cry Primal hitting the shelves this week, we thought we’d celebrate by listing our Top 10 dinosaur video games of all time. Spoiler: It’s a very thin list:

10. The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997)

This PS1 console game based on the very average Jurassic Park film sequel was a platformer with impressive dinosaur animations. You’d play levels in groups as different dinosaurs or human hunters.

9. Primal Carnage: Extinction (2015)

A online multiplayer PC Steam game that features humans versus dinosaur battles. It looked good but the crazy-silly action killed any chance of real fear.

8. Jurassic Park: The Game (2011)

Before Telltale Games started producing masterpieces in recent years, they made this. It was intense at times and had an okay story, but it was more like a laggy interactive film that wasn’t much fun.

7. Turok (2008)

Forget the dinosaurs… Turok the dinosaur hunter is the most dangerous living thing on this island. This dude wrestles dinosaurs, kicks dinosaurs and punches them in the nose. Despite all the gloriously-cheesy action, it was a nicely polished game.

6. Prehistoric Isle in 1930 (1989)

This side-scrolling aerial shooter is an arcade classic that’s still fun to play today. You fly a biplane into dinosaur territory, collecting power ups and unloading ammo into advancing dinosaurs.

5. Lego Jurassic World (2015)

All four Jurassic Park films crossover with the Lego universe. It’s a harmless family game that works. Collecting lego bits and building stuff to evade dinosaurs is part of the fun.

4. Primal Rage (1994)

At the time, we all said this game was great, ignoring the truth that it was actually pretty horrible. Yep… it’s Street Fighter with dinosaur fighters. Despite the low textures, it forever has a fixed place in gaming history as a thing that actually happened.

3. Ark: Survival Evolved (2015)

It’s like an open-world survival game in a prehistoric setting but futuristic weapons. It’s more of a grind that it pretends to be, as it features a lot of running around, building and crafting… But at higher levels you start riding dinosaurs into battle.

2. Jurassic Park Arcade (2015)

Yes, that’s right, there’s a brand new Jurassic Park Arcade game out and it’s sick! Any decent arcade should stock it. It’s an on-rails shooter, but firing the weapons feels smooth and badass. Plus it’s genuinely terrifying!

1. Dino Crisis 2 (1999)

Arguably the best game on the PlayStation (One), this game was like Resident Evil with dinosaurs. The story was great, gameplay was fun and the atmosphere was engrossing and terrifying!

Well that’s our top 10. Did we miss any that you loved? Let us know in the comments below!
